About

Hi, I'm Londa (they/them)

About Me:

I am a licensed mental health counselor in both North Carolina (14310) and Florida (MH20959).  I am currently based in Asheville, NC and telehealth appointments for residents of Florida and North Carolina

I have worked in the mental health field for over 15 years.  I am passionate about supporting folks in their healing journeys.  I believe the client/counselor relationship is the key to the healing process.  While I have specific theories and techniques I use in session, the therapeutic relationship is the most important piece, research shows better outcomes for folks when they have a trusting relationship with their therapist.

I know some people say that people cannot change and I disagree with this wholeheartedly.  People can change, however, it takes a lot of work.  It takes leaning into discomfort, allowing difficult thoughts, emotions, body sensations, and beliefs to be present.  The healing comes from allowing the discomfort and working through the discomfort.  I always tell my clients when we first meet that we will create a safe space to experience discomfort, this is where the growth occurs.  One of my favorite poets says this in one of their poems:

"I said to the sun, 'Tell me about the big bang.'  The sun said, 'It hurts to become.'  -Andrea Gibson

All this talk about discomfort and you're probably wondering why you would ever do therapy.  I can assure you that I use a lot of humor in therapy and that we will build up to the discomfort, remember, we have to create safe space first, we have to build that trust and rapport.

Who I work well with:

The folks I work with are often experiencing anxiety, PTSD, self-doubt and low self-esteem, depression, interpersonal struggles, relationship/attachment struggles, and role changes.

I have found that I work well with folks who are experiencing symptoms related to unresolved trauma and stress in their lives. I also work with the LGBTQ+ community providing support and safe space to explore their identity, accept who they are, develop skills to manage and heal from difficult experiences, and decide how they want to show up as their authentic self in the world.

Misc About Me:

Outside of therapy, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, riding my bike, watching college football, playing board/card games, listening to podcasts/audio books, and spending time outdoors.  I identify as gender non-binary and use they/them pronouns.
